The Anatomy of Change That Gets Results
According to various professionals, it takes between 21 and 30 days of consistently implementing a change before it becomes a part of you. That statistic makes change sound like an easy task to conquer. Seems like it only takes consistency to change a behavior or habit. So why is it so hard for people to change?
Truth be told, it takes more than longevity of a new action to make a behavior a permanent fixture of your new lifestyle. There are five additional key components needed to successfully produce the change you desire and deserve. Keep in mind that the end result is to produce the positive change you want in your life.
In order to be consistent with change, MOTIVATION is essential. Motivation creates a burning desire to carry out your feat for the long haul without giving in. Develop the motivation you need to defeat any obstacles that will get in your way. Accomplish the desire to change by rewarding yourself after every step that draws you closer to completing your goals.
Before beginning your journey to change, conduct a SELF- ASSESSMENT. Analyze your strengths and weaknesses. once you truthfully come to terms with that you can and what you cannot do, use the data collected wisely. Being aware of your weaknesses are not to make your deficits known. If you know your weaknesses, you can use your strengths to overcome and diminish your weak points.
To remain steady on your inclination to change, be sure your GOALS ARE REALISTIC. Goals that are within reach are more likely to be obtained. Goals that do not match your skill set, background knowledge or potentials will lead you to quit before you even make it to the half way mark. Realistic goals will not mean your standards are low. Realistic goals set the stage for you to strive to achieve more & more after completing other goals that were realistically obtainable.
Consistently stay on track with change by periodically REEVALUATING where you are. Set check points throughout the month after you start on your journey to change. Reevaluating every week is ideal, do not go longer than 2 weeks without checking in with yourself. When evaluating your pathway to change, determine what is working & what is not working. Implementing more of what’s right & replace what has gone wrong. Trial & error is a normal cycle within the process of change. But do not linger in error because it will cause you to give up.
Another factor pertinent to produce sustainable change is having POSITIVE ROLE MODELS. Role models should be selected by how well they support you & hold you accountable. Having the strength & stamina to create a change is not a smooth sailing task. You need a cheer team to push you to the end. ole models do not always come in the form of family or friends. Anyone who makes a positive, “I want to be different” attitude vibrate throughout your soul is the ideal role model.
So now you are sweating bullets because you thought change would be as easy as putting on a different pair of socks. Anything that promotes the lifestyle you desire & deserve is worth blood, sweat & tears. Change needs consistency & consistency equals power. Willpower gets you to the next level of success.
